Μουσική ενότητα - ΤΗΕ WHO








Σήμερα θα μιλήσω για ένα από τα μεγαλύτερα αγγλικά συγκροτήματα της δεκαετίας του 60-70 τους WHO. Όποιος έχει δει ένα οποιοδήποτε CSI έχει ακούσει και WHO μιας και όλα τους έχουν σαν τραγούδι τίτλων πολύ γνωστά κομμάτια τους.

Οι WHO θεωρούνται μαζί με τους Stones και τους Beatles ένα από τα πιο σημαντικά συγκροτήματα της δεκαετίας του 60. Βασικά τους μέλη ήταν ο Ρότζερ Ντάλτρεϋ (φωνή, κιθάρα), ο Πήτερ Ταουνσεντ (κιθάρα, πλήκτρα), ο Τζων Έντβιστλ (Μπάσο) και ο Κηθ Μούν (Ντραμς). Η καλύτερη περίοδος τους κατά την άποψη μου ήταν από το 1965-1978 χρονιά που πέθανε από υπερβολική δόση ηρεμιστικών ο Κηθ Μουν.

Ο ήχος των WHO είναι αρκετά πιο σκληρός από των σύγχρονων τους Beatles και Stones. Δεν είναι τυχαίο ότι σχεδόν όλα τα μεγάλα συγκροτήματα της Punk τους κατατάσσουν στους βασικούς εμπνευστές τους. Τα live τους χαρακτηριζόντουσαν από πολύ ενέργεια στην σκηνή και καταστροφή των οργάνων. Ναι, οι κιθάρες και τα ντραμς κακοπερνούσαν στα χέρια τους μιας και στο τέλος του live γινόντουσαν συνήθως κομμάτια. Ο Κηθ Μουν ήταν ο πιο μεγάλος καταστροφέας του συγκροτήματος αφού λέγεται ότι στη διάρκεια της καριέρας του έκανε ζημιές ύψους 300.000 δολαρίων στα ξενοδοχεία όπου διέμεινε κατά τις περιοδείες. Αγαπημένη του μέθοδος ήταν να ρίχνει δυναμίτη στις τουαλέτες. Δεν είναι τυχαίο ότι υπήρξε βασική μορφή έμπνευσης για ....

Οι Who έχουν γράψει πολλά καλά και πολύ γνωστά κομμάτια. Ας δούμε μερικά από αυτά:


The Seeker




Κλασσικό ροκ κομμάτι, η μουσική δένει άριστα με τον στίχο. Ο αναζητητής/seeker είναι ο σύγχρονος άνθρωπος που προσπαθεί να βγάλει κάποιο νόημα στη ζωή του και δεν το βρίσκει ούτε στον υπερβολικό πειραματισμό, ούτε στους άλλους ανθρώπους. Παρεμπιπτόντως ο Timothy Leary που αναφέρεται στην τρίτη στροφή ήταν Αμερικάνος διανοούμενος που έκανε πολλά πειράματα με LSD τη δεκαετία του 60 και με τεχνητή πραγματικότητα τη δεκαετία του 90 προσπαθώντας να βρει απαντήσεις σε κάποια από τα μεγαλύτερα φιλοσοφικά ερωτήματα.

Baba O'Reily

Πιο γνωστό ως Teenage Wasteland. Η μουσική έχει μεγάλες επιρροές από τα Folk κομμάτια πράγμα που έχει γίνει συνειδητά ούτως ώστε να δείξει τη διαφορά ανάμεσα στο τι θέλει ένας νέος και τι του προσφέρει η επαρχία. Παίζει και σαν τίτλος αρχής κάποιου CSI.

Από τα πιο γνωστά τους κομμάτια. Ευθεία αναφορά στο χάσμα των γενεών με ένα από τα πρώτα τραγούδια με σόλο μπάσου στην ιστορία της ροκ. Επίσης θα το δείτε πριν από το CSI.

To Ι Can See for Miles είναι κατά τη γνώμη μου ένα από τα πιο ωραία τους κομμάτια. Προσωπικά μου εμένα μου φέρνει πολλές εικόνες στο μυαλό, οπότε δεν μπορώ να πως ότι δεν πέτυχε στο σκοπό του. Και όλα αυτά με 3 στίχους (κάτι μου λέει ότι βρήκα από που έκλεψε την ιδέα για την Θαλάσσα ο Σαβόπουλος)

Από τα πιο εικονικά κομμάτια του συγκροτήματος. Το κομμάτι αναφέρεται ευθεία στην επανάσταση/αντίσταση και στο πόσο εύκολο είναι το να ξαναβρεθείς στο ίδιο ακριβώς σημείο. Όλα αυτά βέβαια πάνω σε έναν σχεδόν τέλειο ήχο. Τώρα θα μου πείτε τι σχέση μπορεί να έχουν αυτά τα κομμάτια με τα CSI και θα σας απαντήσω, έλα μου ντε;

Συνηθίζω να βάζω και κανένα Live οπότε έχουμε και το Magic Bus. Πολύ καλό και ενδιαφέρον κομμάτι για την εποχή του με ρυθμό και ένταση. Τώρα τι ακριβώς είναι το Magic Bus δεν είμαι σίγουρος, ας πούμε η φαντασία. Πρέπει να έχει επηρεάσει και την ελληνική ροκ σκηνή μιας και είχαμε και το στίχο

Squeezebox

Μεγάλη εμπορική επιτυχία. Οι στίχοι είναι λίγο διφορούμενοι, ή αναφέρεται σε ένα ακορντεόν οπότε το τραγούδι είναι αθώο ή αναφέρεται στο σεξ (πράγμα που είναι το πιο πιθανόν με βάση την εκτέλεση).

ΤΟΜΜΥ
Εδώ οφείλω να συμπληρώσω ότι δημιουργήθησαν αυτό που λέγεται rock όπερα (όχι δεν αναφέρομαι στους Δαίμονες του Καρβελαίικου). Το Tommy ήταν η πρώτη rock όπερα και περιλαμβάνει μερικά πολύ ωραία μέρη. Αργότερα γυρίστηκε και ταινία με πάρα πολύ γνωστούς ερμηνευτές σε κάποια σημεία (Elton John, Eric Clapton, Tina Turner) για παράδειγμα

Η όλη ταινία ανταποκρίνεται στην αισθητική της δεκαετίας της και προσπαθεί να περάσει αρκετά έντονα κάποια μηνύματα. Παρόλα αυτά είναι ενδιαφέρουσα.

Κλείνοντας πρέπει να τονίσω ότι εδώ απλά ξύσαμε την επιφάνεια του τι είναι οι Who. Πιστεύω ότι ο καλύτερος τρόπος να μάθει κανείς ένα συγκρότημα είναι το να παρακολουθήσει το σύνολο του έργου τους αλλά ανεξάρτητα ένα best of καλό είναι να υπάρχει σε μία δισκοθήκη. Κάποιοι θα μου τονίσουν ότι σχεδόν δεν αναφέρομαι στην μετά 1978 εποχή του συγκροτήματος. Πιστεύω ότι η κυριότερη δημιουργικά περίοδος τους ήταν μέχρι Who Are You και μετά λίγο ο θάνατος του Μουν, λίγο η κόπωση, λίγο το ότι δεν ήταν πλέον οι πρωτοπόροι και έτσι μείναν λίγο πίσω.
